What We Do For NYS FCCLA
Here are some ways Alumni & Associates members can and have assisted in Local, District and State FCCLA activities:
- Being a chapter chaperone or helper,
- Assisting students in STAR Events competitions,
- Becoming a mentor for a member or a chapter,
- Sharing special skills and experiences with members,
- Assist local chapter members in their goal to become chapter, district, state or national officers,
- Assisting in public relations efforts of local chapters,
- Serving as a guest speaker on a topic of current interest,
- Financially sponsoring a student or chapter in competitions and projects on all levels of FCCLA,
- Assisting in setting up workshop and banquet rooms at State Meeting, including STAR Events and special event rooms,
- Being STAR Events evaluators, room consultants and event coordinators,
- Presenting workshop material and issue sessions,
- Assisting with the handicapped (wheelchair bound students, sign language, etc.),
- Assisting with registration and general office duties,
- Providing entertainment to meeting delegates via FCCLA "game shows,"
- Providing specialized items such as photo backdrops and related meeting signage throughout the year,
- Helping out at conference sessions and social gatherings,
- Educating members, advisers and Alumni members about issues that affect their schools and communities through a different perspective,
- Providing moral support for local chapters to their school administrators and school board,
- Providing technical support for state and national conferences through electronic, audio/visual and theatrical knowledge and skill,
- Being "second hands" for State Officers, their advisers, state FCCLA staff and the Board of Trustees,
- Providing the opportunity for graduating seniors and interested parents and individuals to continue support of FCCLA and its programs and members,
- Assisting in searching for keynote speakers, contacts, workshop presenters or issue sessions presenters, or becoming ones themselves,
- Being a greeter to VIP's and special guests for meetings and events,
- Being a "cruise director": providing directions to rooms, around towns and cities and being a recognizable friendly face,
- Being a "taxi driver": picking up special guests from train stations, airports and bus terminals,
- Becoming an active participant in members’ experiences and successes throughout their FCCLA career.
